Configuration

You have successfully kicked off the project, implemented event tracking, and imported your catalog data. Now you have arrived at the core of the integration: Configuration.

This milestone answers the question: How do I make my data visible and interactive for the customer?

This article lists all the steps that should be taken in configuring Tweakwise to ensure a complete setup. It consists of two parallel tracks:

  1. Configuration: A comprehensive checklist of logic, rules, and behavior to define within the Tweakwise dashboard.
  2. Implementation: Connecting your frontend to Tweakwise to display results on your shop.

Your Onboarding Specialist will take care of the configuration of your Tweakwise instance. Depending on your level we will configure the relevant modules. This includes the search, filtering, sorting and extra modules if they are included.

Prerequisites

  • Data: Ensure Products & Categories are available in the instance.
  • Event Tag: Must be active.
  • Analytics: Connect Google Analytics (Required for Advanced & Expert levels).
    • Required Reports: Purchases (last 7 & 30 days), Pageviews (last 7 & 30 days).
  • Verify: Check the Demoshop to confirm products are visible.

General Configuration

  • Languages: Configure active languages in Settings.
  • Characteristics: Map your attributes to standard Tweakwise properties. You must define:
    • Image
    • URL
    • SKU
    • Brand
    • Item Type

Search

Configure these elements at the root level:

  • Algorithm: Set up your Search Algorithm funnel to determine recall and precision.
  • Stopwords: Add mutations to ignore common noise words (e.g., "the", "and").
  • Synonyms: Add synonyms to catch semantic variations (e.g., "trousers" = "pants").
  • Suggestions: Configure auto-complete suggestions to guide users.
  • Filter Templates: Assign specific filters to be used in Search. Enable "Smart filtering" to dynamically show relevant facets.
  • Merchandising Rules (Sorting): Create a default sort strategy using parameters like margin or popularity.
  • Redirects: Set up redirects for non-product queries (e.g., "return policy", "store hours").
  • (Optional) Banners: Configure visual banners related to specific search terms.

Commerce Pages

Configure these elements for your primary category pages:

  • Merchandising Rules (Sorting): Apply category-specific sorting rules if they should not follow the default sorting rules. Link the templates to the respective categories.
  • Filter Templates: Assign specific filters to categories if different from Search. Enable "Smart filtering" to dynamically show relevant facets.
  • Pins: "Pin" specific products to fixed positions (e.g., manually placing a bestseller at position 1).
  • Builder: Use the visual builder to design tile layouts.
    • Basic: Attribute-level components (e.g., Brand, New, Bestseller).
    • Advanced: Rule-based components.
  • (Advanced) Visuals: add promotions, shop-the-looks or other content blocks.
  • (Expert) External Data: Integrate sponsored products or external feeds.
  • (Expert) Personalization: add last viewed, last bought or personal products.

Recommendations

Set up the following recommendation models:

  • Featured Products: For the homepage or other landingpages.
  • Up-sell: For the Product Detail Page (Group key: "upsell").
  • Cross-sell: For the Product Detail Page (Group key: "crosssell").
  • Cart: Cross-sell recommendations for the Shopping Cart (Group key: "cart").

Guided Selling

  • Funnel: Build a question-and-answer funnel for complex product groups to help users find the right item.

Verify: After configuring, always Publish and check the Demoshop. If it looks right there, the API will serve the correct data.

Notes & Important Considerations

  • Publication: Changes in the Tweakwise App (like a new sorting rule) are not live instantly. You must hit the Publish button. API responses update directly after the task finishes.

FAQ

Q: Why do I see different results in the API compared to the backend settings? A: You likely haven't published your changes yet. Go to Connectivity - Jobs and click the "Run" button on the Publish job, and wait for it to complete.

Q: Can I implement Search first and Commerce Pages later? A: Yes. This milestone is modular. You can perform the Configuration and Implementation steps for Search, go live, and then repeat the cycle for Commerce Pages or Recommendations later.
