Smart Search gives e-commerce teams full control over a powerful, AI-driven search experience. Combine keyword and vector search, smart suggestions and intelligent filters to help visitors find the right products faster, reduce zero-result searches and turn search traffic into conversions.
This guide explains how to configure the Tweakwise extension to enable Smart Search and Suggestions.
Configuration
Navigate to Stores → Configuration → Catalog → Tweakwise.
Step 1: Connect Your Instance
Before enabling search, ensure your Magento store is connected to your Tweakwise instance.
- Open the General section.
- Paste your specific instance key in the Authentication key field.
You can find this key in your Tweakwise App dashboard.
Step 2: Activate Search
Now you will replace the native search results page with Tweakwise.
- Open the Search section.
- Set Enabled to Yes.
- Searchbanners enabled: to Yes.
- Tweakwise search template to use in search results: select * Default template (unless otherwise instructed/desired).
- Search language: Select the language for this specific store view (Note: For extension versions 8.7.1 and higher, this setting is located in the General section).
Step 3: Enable Suggestions
To provide instant feedback while the user types, enable Tweakwise Autocomplete.
- Open the Autocomplete section.
- Set Enabled to Yes.
- Set Use Suggestions Autocomplete to Yes to use the latest Tweakwise suggestion engine (recommended).
- Show parent category: Set to Yes to provide context for category suggestions.
After saving your configuration, always flush your Magento cache to ensure changes take effect immediately.
Important Considerations
- Multi-Store Views: If you run multiple languages or storefronts, ensure you switch the Store View scope in the top-left corner of the configuration page and configure the Authentication key and Search language separately for each view.
- Template Consistency: If you select a custom "Tweakwise search template" in Step 2, ensure that template actually exists in your Tweakwise dashboard. Selecting a non-existent template may cause the search page to fallback to defaults or display errors.
- API Endpoints: Tweakwise communicates with the storefront via API. For advanced debugging or custom implementations, refer to the Merchandising & Commerce Platform API documentation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I enabled the search, but I still see the old Magento results. Why?
A: This is usually a caching issue. Flush your Magento cache (System > Cache Management) and your Full Page Cache. If the issue persists, check if another third-party search module is overriding the search results page layout.
Q: Can I use Tweakwise Search while keeping Magento's native layered navigation?
A: Yes, but it is not recommended. Tweakwise Search is designed to work best with Tweakwise Layered Navigation (Commerce Pages) to ensure filters and facets are consistent with the search results. You can configure Layered Navigation in the Layered Navigation section of the same config page.
Q: My "Search language" option is missing from the Search section.
A: Check your extension version. In Magento2Tweakwise v8.7.1 and newer, the language setting was moved to the General section to support broader localization features.
